Family of Baker, who has also performed with Fela Kuti and Public Image Ltd, ask fans to ‘keep him in your prayers’

Baker, 80, has had a hugely varied career. Baker’s health has deteriorated in recent years. In 2013 he told Rolling Stone that he was suffering from “extremely painful” osteoarthritis, and also had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a lung condition. In 2016 he underwent open heart surgery and suffered a bad fall.
