Big Nick Nicholas was an early bebop saxophonist who played with Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington, among others. He was an influence on John Coltrane, who named a song after him ("Big Nick"). Nicholas finally recorded as a leader in the 1980s, when he did two albums for the India Navigation label.
