Jazzwise Magazine have published their annual albums of the year critics poll. Two legendary saxophonists have bagged the top spots this year: Wayne Shorter with his orchestral creative art piece called 'Emanon', and Charles Lloyd alongside his band The Marvels and vocalist Lucinda Williams for their Americana infused 'Vanished Gardens' LP. Other highlights include two albums from pianist Brad Mehldau, the Mercury prize nominated British 4-piece Sons of Kemet, Kurt Elling’s 'The Questions' and Jazz FM’s international jazz artist of the year Cecile Mclorin Salvant. I am familiar with smaller half of the list, but can only agree with from first look such an unorthodox top winner - Charles Lloyd/Lucinda Williams  album is hardly a jazz at all, but it is that fantastic crossover of Americana/roots and jazz that attracts far not only jazz lovers. Once started, you will like to spin it again and again.

Sons Of Kemet  album on Impulse! is successful example of modern London world fusion, fresh angry and young again.

Cecil McLorin Savant  release is vocal jazz sounding as if fifties came to new Millennium with their non-pretending feelings; music from pre-show business era.
