On Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:00 pm EDT, PBS will premiere

Hugo Berkeley's Jazz Ambassadors,

a new documentary about the 1958 State Department program

that was designed to promote democracy and build bridges

to the artistic and intellectual communities behind the

Iron Curtain and throughout the Middle East.

The State Department recognized that American popular culture

was one of the country’s most effective secret weapons,

and jazz, in particular, was one of America's most important

cultural exports.

On their newest CD, TIMELINE, The Brubeck Brothers Quartet celebratesDave Brubeck’s participation in the Jazz Ambassador State Department Tour, which turned out to be an historically important event for jazz.

Dave’s exposure to new cultures and new musical languages had a big impact on his compositions (such as Blue Rondo a la Turk) and consequently on the jazz world as well.

TIMELINE includes compositions written by Dave and inspired by that tour but with fresh, new re-arrangements by the Brubeck Brothers Quartet, as well as some compelling new originals.
