The year was rich in strong and variable releases and unfortunately I still didn't listen to everything what I feel can be really interesting from new releases. For my taste, most attractive music in 2017 came from two jazz subgenres - modern composition combined with freer improvs and still developing European nu jazz 1. Vijay Iyer - Far From Over 2. Phronesis - The Behemoth 3. Craig Taborn - Daylight Ghosts 4. Wadada Leo Smith - Najwa 5. Craig Taborn / Ikue Mori - Highsmith

I think the problem with a lot of the fusion music is that it's extremely predictable, it's a rock rhythm and the solos all play the same stuff and they play it over and over again ...
