I love John Zorn's Book of Angels.

I haven't heard the entire series yet, so I'm especially curious to hear what other people have listened to from this series. I'd say my top 5 so far are:

1. Azazel by Masada String Trio
2. Sother by Bar Kokhba
3. Malphas by Mark Feldman & Sylvie Courvoisier
4. Ipos by The Dreamers
5. Zaebos - Medeski, Martin, & Wood

What about yours?

Asmodeus (Marc Ribot)
Balan (Cracow Klezmer Band)
Baal (Ben Goldberg Quartet)
Ipos (The Dreamers)

Good, but not so good as previous four for me:

Astaroth (Jamie Saft Trio)
Stolas (Masada Quintet & Joe Lovano)
Mycale (Mycale)
Caym (Banquet Of The Spirits)

Didn't listen every album from Book Of Angels series, but from what I heard no album is bad or boring.

That applies to the original Masada to me, Boof of Angels had a few misses (especially Koby Israelite [IV] and Cracow Klezmer Band [V]).

As for my favourites: Lucifer (Bar Kokhba), Zaebos (Medeski, Martin & Wood), Stolas (Masada Quintet with Joe Lovano) and Malphas (Mark Feldman & Sylvie Courvoisier).

Original Masada is great musical concept and great musicianship, but for me the idea is overexploited - each album is good, but there are only small differences between them. Book of Angels series contain albums of more various level, but they are much more different between each other

No, I definitely like the unity of the klezmer rather than the various musicianship in the second. After an evening of, say, three hours of flamenco, you'd probably feel the same "overexploatation" of the specific dance, no matter how various the repertoire was.

Besides, some musicians not interpreting Zorn's scores too well or interesting is precisely why I said that some albums are a miss.

Just listened to Mycale and wow. Amazing voices. The solos are irresistible.

If you like Mycale, try Charming Hostess (from Tzadik as well) - excellent albums in similar key (I like their Sarajevo Blues)

Don't mind me saying, but availability of samples goes both ways, for provider and searcher. Besides, this topic isn't primarily the recommendation type.
