Former EST drummer Magnus Öström new album

Former EST drummer and solo artist Magnus Öström is set to return with Parachute, his third album, which is released on 1 April on Diesel Music, the same label that released EST’s album EST Plays Monk some 20 years ago. The follow-up to the jazzrock-edged Searching for Jupiter in 2013, and his 2011 solo debut, Thread of Life (both on ACT records), Parachute is distinctly more jazz orientated – with Öström’s propulsive kit-work fuelling extended solos from guitarist Andreas Hourdakis and pianist Daniel Karlsson, alongside bassist Thobias Gabrielson, plus a guest appearance from renowned Norwegian trumpeter Mathias Eick on the track ‘The Shore of Unsure’. The drummer and band are set to tour the UK in support of the album with dates soon to be announced – while the official album launch takes place atRonnie Scott’s Jazz Club, London on 26 April.
