FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Photos Available on Request Liminal Sound Series Presents Composer Alex Coke Thursday, May 21 8pm Museum of Human Achievement 3600 Lyons Austin Tx 78702 Tickets at the door: $10 The Liminal Sound Series, a new live performance series from Austin Texas, will feature musician composer Alex Coke in concert May 21 at Austin's Museum of Human Achievement. Curator of the series, Bob Hoffnar said, "This is a rare chance to see Alex, bringing his own music back to Austin playing with longtime friends and collaborators. We are lucky to have such deep talent pool to draw on for this concert." In addition to Coke on saxophone and flutes, the sextet includes Bob Hoffnar [pedalsteel], Alex Heitlinger [trombone] New Music Co-op Founder Travis Weller [violin] Aaron Allen [double bass] and JJ Johnson [drums] An improvisor at heart, Coke's eclectic attitude has led him to explore everything from Be-Bop to Huddie Ledbetter, flute studies ranging from Eric Dolphy to Indian ragas and the extended techniques researched by Robert Dick, Ann LaBerge and Wil Offermans. His multifarious projects as bandleader and composer include Live Action Brass Band, Leadbelly Legacy Band, New Texas Swing with Tina Marsh, Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas In Wales, and post-bop quintet, The Worthy Constituents, a collaboration with longtime partner, pianist and composer, Rich Harney. As an original member of The Creative Opportunity Orchestra, touring and recording member of The Willem Breuker Kollektief, Burton's Green's KlezEdge, Rob Verdurmen's Drummer's Double Bill, and as a frequent featured performer on numerous projects in Texas, the Netherlands, Paris, France and Ghana, Africa, Coke has had the honour of working with some of the world's most creative and diverse musicians. An award winning jazz saxophonist, flutist, and notable composer, his extensive discography includes recordings from Aardvark, BVHaast, CreopMuse, VoxLox, daagnim, and many independant labels worldwide. The Liminal Sound Series is dedicated to the commissioning of new works and collaborations between visionary composers and Austin musicians and performers and is funded and supported in part by the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division. ## For more info: |
