Hello everybody here are some Afro Cuban Orchestras.
Xavier Cugat is under Big Band ? Or should he be under Afro Cuban.

Here are the best known Cuban Orchestras or big bands that are missing . All use Afro Cuban rythmns. ( Cha Cha,Bolero,Pregon,Guaracha,Danzon, etc)

Machito
Perez Prado
Tito Rodriguez
Orchestra Casino De La Playa
Beny More ............... Most famous Afro Cuban singer of them all
Arsenio Rodriguez,,,,,,,,,,,Blind tres player and songwriter credited with being the first to come up with the Conjunto format

Miguelito Valdez is in the site but no genre.............Afro Cuban of course for Mr Babalu.........Desi Arnaz just covered it,

Here's the way I would categorize these bands, If the band was kind of commercial with lots of cross appeal, they go in big band.
If they were solid Afro-Cuban most of the time they go in Afro-Cuban
If they were solid Latin, but in styles outside of Afro-Cuban, they go in Latin Jazz.

For each artists up there, tell me which category you would pick, I'm thinking big band for Cugat, let me know what you think about him and the rest.

I agree about Cugat , his music was the mambo but he did play anything including The Twist

All the others John are Afro Cuban. Tito Rodriguez was from Puerto Rico but played Afro Cuban.

Miguelito Valdez sang with Cugat ,Machito ,Tito Rodriguez and with Orchestra Casino de la Playa and wound up at Fania records later. Afro Cuban.

I have a lot of old Cuban music at home of all styles on the Tumbao label. They specialised in releasing this material from the 1920's to the sixties. Awesome box sets on Chano Pozo and Beny More. What is funny on the More box set they made a big typo when they spelt  Beny as Bernny More LOLEmbarrassed for them.

OK Matt, I'll take care of everything. if you want Miguelito Valdez to have a genre, you need to add an album to the discog.

Chano Pozo is also here, but he needs an album added to his discog to show up.
