Free Jazz Veteran Alan Braufman Announces New Album Infinite Love Infinite TearsAlto saxophonist and flutist Alan Braufman has been making significant noise in the world of free jazz for half a century. After studying at Berklee, the Brooklyn native returned to New York in 1973 and became a fixture of Lower Manhattan’s legendary loft scene. He’s done a lot since then — much more than I can cram into this quickie blog post — but nowadays he’s posted up in Salt Lake City, still kicking out incendiary music. Today Braufman announced Infinite Love Infinite Tears, the follow-up to 2020’s The Fire Still Burns. As with the prior album, Braufman’s latest finds him teaming with an exciting crew of collaborators including Patricia Brennan on vibraphone, James Brandon Lewis on tenor sax, Ken Filiano on bass, Chad Taylor on drums, and Michael Wimberly on percussion. Lead single “Edge Of Time” is out now. “The melody for ‘Edge Of Time’ came to me a few years back, just part of the musical hum going on in my head pretty much in my head 24/7,” Braufman says. “It was quite fun turning this 9-bar melody into a coherent piece of music.” Listen below. TRACKLIST: Infinite Love Infinite Tears is out 5/17 on Valley Of Search. from www.stereogum.com |
