Kamasi Washington Announces Album and Tour, Shares Video for New Song “Prologue”: Watch

The Los Angeles jazz luminary made Fearless Movement with André 3000, Thundercat, George Clinton, and more

Kamasi Washington has announced his new album Fearless Movement. The beloved Los Angeles jazz multi-instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader will release his follow-up to 2018’s Heaven and Earth on May 3 via Young. Below, watch the video for Washington’s new song “Prologue.” Scroll down for the artist’s new tour dates.

Washington is apparently calling his Fearless Movement his “dance album,” although not in the traditional electronic music sense of the phrase. “It’s not literal,” he said in a press release. “Dance is movement and expression, and in a way it’s the same thing as music—expressing your spirit through your body. That’s what this album is pushing.”

The new album includes “The Garden Path,” which Washington performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2022. Fearless Movement also has contributions from Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Patrice Quinn, flutist André 3000, vocalists George Clinton, BJ the Chicago Kid, and D Smoke, and others.

After sharing Heaven and Earth in June 2018, Washington released a companion EP called The Choice. A couple of years later, he issued his soundtrack for the Michelle Obama documentary Becoming. Washington has also released several projects with Robert Glasper and Terrace Martin under the Dinner Party banner.
