A very sad day for me. Machine Gun is still the pinnacle of free jazz IMO and renders large swaths of it muted and feckless. Additionally aside from Sun Ra, I feel like he is the jazz artist I have the most stuff from...and the percentage for hit rate is pretty darn high (of course its only just scratching the surface of his oeuvre). Never will see another like him. Wish I could have experienced that hellfire live.
RIP and thanks for all the lacerations.
