Pharoah Sanders
Pharoah Sanders (MM Music Agency)

The latest new jazz releases include the late, great Pharoah Sanders live in Hamburg-Alton back in 1980 on Live at Fabrik Hamburg 1980, Jeff Goldblum and The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra's ebullient Plays Well With Others, vocalist extraordinaire Cécile McLorin Salvant presents an eclectic mix of songs, one of which dates back to the 12th century, on Mélusine, and expect some prog-jazz nourishment from Orchestra of the Upper Atmosphere on Theta Six

Last year the jazz world lost the great Pharoah Sanders, one of the true innovators in music since the 1960s. Thankfully his music lives on, as on this live 1980 recording from “Fabrik” in Hamburg-Altona, where he is in top form with drummer Idris Muhammad, John Hicks on piano and Curtis Lundy on bass. A wonderful journey through spiritual jazz, as only Pharoah knew how.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Plays Well With Others

Jeff Goldblum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra

It’s easy to dismiss film stars moonlighting as jazz artists… especially if one avoids actually listening to the finished product! But in Jeff Goldblum’s case, it is well worth the effort, as he transfers some of that gonzo energy of his acting roles into the music. Accompanied by his long-time band, The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra, he returns to deliver sheer joy with his idiosyncratic take on a collection of standards that, for Jeff, are amongst the best songs ever written.

Available Formats: Vinyl Record, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Mélusine

Cécile McLorin Salvant

Cécile McLorin Salvant, is a composer, singer, and visual artist. The late Jessye Norman described Salvant as“a unique voice supported by an intelligence and full-fledged musicality, which light up every note she sings”. Mélusine features a mix of five originals and interpretations of nine songs, dating as far back as the twelfth century, mostly sung in French along with Occitan, English, and Haitian Kreyňl.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Theta Six

Orchestra of the Upper Atmosphere

Orchestra of the Upper Atmosphere's 6th album collides a studio session of bass driven rhythms with a marathon free improvisation session - combined, sculpted and arranged into an ever morphing tapestry of new sounds from leftfield progressive music. Fans of Soft Machine, Magma, Pink Floyd, Henry Cow, Sun Ra will enjoy this too.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC
