International Jazz in the Park Competition

 Apply and be part of the International Jazz in the Park Competition! A great opportunity is now available for the up-and-coming jazzy acts. Apply now for the International Jazz in the Park Competition and you have the chance to perform in front of over 2.000 people at Iulius Park  between May 3-5, 2019 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Application deadline: 1st of April 2019.
 

Why:
You don’t have anything to lose, there is no participation fee!
You will be promoted online on our website from the moment you applied.
The festival has 2 full days dedicated to the Contest on the Iulius Park Stage, so all the crowd and media will be there to see you.
If you are selected among the final 14 bands, you have the chance to perform a 30 minute concert in front of thousands of people.
We will provide you back line and all the technical support.
We will give you accommodation and meals for two days, and 250 euro for transportation/band. It doesn’t matter if you have a lot of experience or you are at the beginning of your carrier.

Music genres:  We’re looking for bands in the following music genres: Jazz (with any influences), Nu Jazz, Acid Jazz, Electro Jazz, Swing, Trip-Hop, Acoustic, Rockabilly, Soul, Blues, Fusion, Cover (but only if it’s jazzy).

Application form: It is essential that the application form is filled out correctly. We require this information in order to make sure that we get in touch with the right people if we have any questions. Also, we require a video probe of the band. Quality of the recording is not important.

Selection: Our own artistic department is in charge of the selection of the bands. During the competition, the winners will be selected by a jury formed by international and Romanian musicians and jazz promoters, and representatives of the Jazz in the Park Festival.

Sound check and concert prep: You will be allowed to perform a 30-minute sound check before the event begins, and you will have about 10 minutes to prepare on stage before your actual performance.

Tech rider: When asked, please supply a full tech rider, with a stage plot or an equivalent in PDF of word format.

Back line: Will be supplied for every artist.

Jam sessions: Each night of the competition closes with a jam session, just like a light after-party. You are not obliged, but it’s recommended that you participate in the jam session, because of the possibility of interacting with the other bands and the audience of the competition.

Photo – Video rights: All concerts will be filmed and photographed by our crew and the material will be used for promotional reasons (aftermovies and posting on social media). However, if the materials will be solicited for other usage, the band will be asked for approval before any use of the materials

What chosen bands will receive beside prizes:
– accommodation and meals during the bands’ participation at the competition (full 2 day)
– a transport fee of max. 250 EUR
– exposure

Awards:

1) Open Air section:
– 1st prize: Lei 9,500 net and the invitation to hold a concert at Jazz in the Park Festival, during the period July 4 – 7, 2019 (net fee Lei 2,250)
– 2nd prize: Lei 4.750 net and the invitation to hold a concert at Jazz in the Park Festival, during the period July 4 – 7, 2019 (net fee Lei 2,250)
– 3rd prize: studio monitors, offered by Acoustic Density

2) Club section:
Special prize: tour in 4 Romanian cities (total net fee, Lei 6,000).

3) Composition section:
Prize for the most valuable composition: Lei 1,000 net.

4) Best Romanian Band Award:
Tour comprising 7 concerts in Romania, provided by Staropramen (fee Lei 2,250/concert, accommodation and transport costs included)

 5) Special mentions:
Three special mentions offered for best musicians by Bosch and AV Store –  1.000 lei net worth.
