I still don't think I could come up with a concrete list, but here are some things that would very likely be on it if I did:
Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady Chick Corea - Now He Sings, Now He Sobs John Coltrane - A Love Supreme Miles Davis - Get Up With It Miles Davis - Big Fun Jean Louis - s.t. Weather Report - s.t. beyond that, haven't really given it any thought. It's also likely to have changed by next week. |

I also thought you might be referencing McLaughlin's rock playing style which some call "bluffing", John.

Ah, I see. Well, I think he has released stellar sutff in various projects, his early solo albums, the Mahavishnu records, with Miles Davis and with Shakti. All different, and yet all incredible showing the versatility of John, each time I hear one of those records I'm more convinced that he's one of the greatest guitarist ever.

I was just kidding, but he has participated in some fairly pretentious projects over the years, not that I didn't enjoy most of them.

LOL, what bullsh*t? You're referring to Mahavishnu or to his later solo albums? Yes, Larry Young makes a big difference, especially on the title track.

I wasn't aware that you were a big fan of that McLaughlin album! I discovered it this year and it's freaking fantastic.

There's some AG jazz in there too.
I like almost every genre of jazz there is, but my favorite is psychedelic fusion and RnB, a lot of the best are from the 70s of course.

Is that only classic fusion, or did you squeeze something else too?

^ Vastly over. It's like supa vs. supa supei, or ciorba vs. ciorba reincalzita.
