Stan Tracey’s ReSteamed Records catalogue to appear on all digital platforms

Stan Tracey’s ReSteamed Records catalogue is appearing on all digital platforms from 16th February 2018 for the first time.

Proper Music Distribution and ReSteamed Records are delighted to announce that Stan Tracey’s ReSteamed catalogue will finally be available to download and stream via all digital platforms (including iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer and Amazon MP3/Music Unlimited) worldwide from 16th February 2018.

The late Stan Tracey CBE (who died in 2013 at the age of 86) was one of the most significant and celebrated British jazz musicians, known affectionately as “The Godfather of British Jazz” and responsible for a hugely impressive back catalogue of albums dating back to the 1950s. Stan was house pianist at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in Soho during the 1960s, performing with a staggering array of A-List US jazz musicians – everyone from Sonny Rollins, Yusef Lateef, Roland Kirk and Ben Webster.

In 1965 Tracey released a jazz suite inspired by Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood, which is considered to be one of the finest British jazz albums ever produced. It came in at number 69 on Jazzwise’s 2006 ‘The 100 Jazz Albums That Shook the World’ list and contained the classic “Starless and Bible Black”, with its acclaimed solo by tenor saxophonist Bobby Wellins.

The 2006 reissue of Under Milk Wood marked the first release on Stan’s ReSteamed Records, his newly-reactivated Steam Records. He went on to issue a further twelve recordings on ReSteamed - both archival and new.

Stan’s son Clark Tracey, a renowned jazz drummer who played extensively with his father, now runs the label. Clark has recently released a fascinating book about his father The Godfather of British Jazz: The Life and Music of Stan Tracey (Equinox Publishing, 2017)."
