I recommend you check out Jim Self and Tricky Lix Latin Jazz Band. Jim Self is a tubist. He was assistant Professor of Tuba and the University of Tennessee in 1969 Besides his work as a tubist, Self maintains an active doubling career performing on bass trombone, cimbasso, contra-bass trombone, and (rarely now) string and electric basses and the Steiner EVI (electronic valve instrument). Tricky Lix has that soothing latin beat that i really enjoy. It's fast but smooth paced jazzy rhythms are really something to admire. You guys should really check him out.
