Japanese guitarist Hirokazu Yamaguchi releases today his new album "Vortex Box". It attracts attention with its cover art, very much in early 70s Yamashita's style, and even more - the fact that Yamaguchi plays classical and 12-strings guitars.

HIROKAZU YAMAGUCHI / 山口廣和 / Hirokazu Yamaguchis Vortex Box / ヒロカズ・ヤマグチズ・ボルテックス・ボックス

Vortex Box are
Hirokazu Yamaguchi: classical and 12 stringguitars
Yuichi Terai: saxophones and bass clarinet
Kosuke Ochiai: contrabass and morin khuur
Tomohiro Yahiro: percussions

Radical Jazz Standard Quartet just released the album, which contains acoustic free jazz take on some jazz standards. It's good the originals are named by titles :)

Japanese acoustic trio with wordless vocals on few tracks - Morphine Desert. Sounds quite like ... Japanese jazz. Released today.

Japanese label Venus, renown by their series of acoustic semi-audiophile albums with soft-erotique cover art (usually hard bop ballads, so-called "late night jazz"), after all these years is still active releasing new Eric Alexaner album.

Japanese pianist Masako Ohta (resides in Germany) duets with German trumpeter Matthias Lindermayr, just released, are dreamy and romantic. Something for fans of ECM music, far not so refined, but more lively though.

Japanese avant-garde legend sax player Akira Sakata sounds unusually sentimental in his new project Cocoda (collaboration with his son drummer Manabu Sakata among others)

All-star lineup (Woody Shaw on trumpet, Hubert Laws on flute, Bennie Maupin on tenor sax, Dave Holland on bass, Horace Arnold and Jack DeJohnette on drums besides of Corea's piano) and interesting avant-garde jazz scented music.
