Two decades ago US reedist Tim Berne did his name as new "angry man" of a free jazz generation. For some last years he records for ECM interesting new adventurous jazz of today. Berne mixes avant-garde, chamber jazz and modern composition now, his upcoming new album "Incidentals" isn't much different. Tim's collaborators here are: Oscar Noriega (clarinet),Ches Smith(drums, vibes, timpani),Ryan Ferreira (el.guitar),Matt Mitchell(piano, electronics) with second guitarist David Torn on two tracks

Super hot and very modern post bop by George Colligan, you can hear the whole album right here. As they say, this is not your father's post bop:

Dylan Taylor plays a mix of fusion tracks and post bop tracks on this live in the studio recording that features Mike Clarke and Larry Coryell. This was one of Larry's last recordings.

Chuck Owen's "Whispers on the Wind" features modern big band music with a screamin horn section that recalls Maynard Ferguson and Thd Jones, plus an unexpected western Americana element reminiscent of recent albums by Bill Frisell.
Gregoire Maret and Randy Brecker are featured soloists.

Tobias Delius plays classic 'beep squawk' free jazz with many moments of quiet sensitivity, which are not unusual in today's post Art Ensemble of Chicago free jazz.

^ Afro-Cuban jazz is going through a lot of changes lately and is transforming into something increasingly abstract. Complex arrangements and rhythms have always been a part of Afro-Cuban jazz, but these qualities are being accelerated and there is an increasing dialog and cross influence happening between Afro-Cuban jazz and other 21st century jazz genres. Many modern jazz artists from any genre are turning to Afro-Cuban jazz for a rhythmic influence.

Vocalist Peter Jones writes clever originals that mix jazz with pop and RnB. Recommended for fans of Mark Murphy and Kurt Elling.

Hear and Now is a three woman string trio that combines avant-garde jazz with contemporary concert hall music, as well as folk and blues from around the world. The end result is very original and heartfelt music.

It should be no surprise that John Mayer and Snarky Puppy sideman Bob Reynolds' new album has a strong element of contemporary pop and rock.

Brian Charette's new trippy fusion album has elements of prog rock and electronica, plus plenty of Larry Young influenced B3 playing. You can hear two entire songs here:

One among most creative today's jazz drummer and composer Tyshawn Sorey just released his new album.  After success of his previous album "The Inner Spectrum Of Variables" , massive double-CD work recorded by sextet, on his new release Sorey returns to his more regular trio format with pianist Corey Smythe and double bassist Chris Tordini.  Grove-less,dark, in moments meditative music steps close to chamber avant-garde as never before

Arturo O'Farrill and Chucho Valdes pay tribute to their musically talented fathers on this Afro-Cuban big band extravaganza. Complex ensemble work and mind-blowing piano solos are all part of the package.
