British jazz-rock legends Soft Machine will be firing up the Elgar Room, at the Royal Albert Hall, on 29 June. The gig is part of the Late Night Jazz Series and sees the group return to the venue at which they also performed in 1969 supporting the Jimi Hendrix Experience. This special late night show coincides with the RAH's retrospective on 50 years since the height of counterculture, Summer of Love: Revisited. The group includes leading UK guitarist John Etheridge and great Brit-jazz drummer John Marshall, alongside bassist Roy Babbington and sax/flute/keys virtuoso Theo Travis.

– Mike Flynn
