Trombone Shorty is amongst the recipients of this year’s prestigious Heinz Award, recognising his contribution to the arts and humanities in his home city of New Orleans. The world famous trombone player, whose real name is Troy Andrews, is set to receive $250,000 from the Heinz Family Foundation. The money will allow him to continue his community work, protecting and passing on the musical heritage of New Orleans to younger generations, funding education projects including jazz tuition and supplying instruments. As well as touring with his band, Trombone Shorty has recently found time to write and publish a self-titled short children’s book. from http://www.jazzfm.com/ |
