Songs like these are sometimes released on sound library collections. Italian and French labels sometimes lean this way. I own some of these collections, and Herb Alpert imitations are not uncommon.
If you listen closely to the Mannix tune, the production is not near as smooth as Herb Alpert, but the tune itself and the chord changes hold up well against some of Herb's best, its a very clever imitation, sure had me fooled.

i downloaded the mannix episode as an mp3..then cut just the song out so i have the song..but i cant figure out how to get the sound even on it..it goes up and down through the song..i'm using wavepad software for editing..has anyone had an experience doing this?

Using compression will even it a bit, but volume differences that big will be hard to get entirely even.
