Seifert Jazz Violin Competition deadline for entrants extended to 30 April 2016
Mary James writes: The second Seifert International Jazz Violin Competition will be held in Lusławice, Poland from 24-27 August. The competition is open to violinists, violists and cellists of all nationalities, aged up to 38 years of age, performing jazz and improvised music, including acoustic and electric, with prizes totalling 17,000 euros and a gala concert in Krakow. The competition is held every two years, and alternates with the Jarek Smietana Jazz Guitar Competition which was inaugurated last year. Zbigniew Seifert (1946-1979) was one of the most outstanding Polish jazz musicians whose untimely death prevented the full development of his musical abilities and shattered his global career. The jury includes Mark Feldman, Josh Grossman and Professor Janusz M. Stefanski. The idea behind the competition is to promote the musical heritage of Seifert as well as to help young musicians progress onto the international stage. Winners of the first competition in 2014, which had 63 entrants from 17 countries, have gone on to perform at festivals in Europe such as the Barcelona Fiddle Congress. The organisers have extended the entrance deadline until 30 April. Links: Competition website Competiton rules from www.londonjazznews.com Edited by snobb - 08 Apr 2016 at 1:34pm |
