KEITH TIPPETT AND HOWARD RILEY FOR PIZZA EXPRESS’ ANNUAL STEINWAY FEST 

Stellar names for this year’s Steinway Festival, which kicks of next week at Pizza Express Jazz Club,Soho between 7-13 March, include Keith Tippett, Howard Riley, Liane Carroll, Joe Stilgoe and, jeepers, Rick Wakeman, in attendance with piano-playing offspring Adam. 

This year’s event, a series of jousts between illustrious ivory ticklers in tandem, also throws in an extra ingredient as Steinway & Son’s most significant product innovation, the Spirio, will accompany some of the UK’s most exciting young jazz pianists (including Tom Cawley, Alexander Hawkins and Robert Mitchell), each taking their turn to duet with the phantom playing machine. 

The full festival line-up is: Steinway Spirio Festival Launch Night (7 Mar); Liane Carroll and Joe Stilgoe (8 Mar); Keith Tippett and Howard Riley (9 Mar); Dena De Rose and Janette Mason/Dominic Alldis and Jonathan Gee (10 Mar); Wakeman with Wakeman (11-12 Mar) and Neville Dickie (13 Mar).
