George Coleman to Release First New Leader Album in 20 Years

“A Master Speaks” is out April 8 on Smoke Sessions

By JazzTimes

Tenor saxophonist and NEA Jazz Master George Coleman will release his first album as a leader in nearly 20 years, A Master Speaks, on April 8 via Smoke Sessions Records. It also marks the 80-year-old Coleman’s first recording of any type since the 2002 all-star live tribute album Four Generations of Miles. The new session features drummer George Coleman Jr., pianist Mike LeDonne and bassist Bob Cranshaw, with guitarist Peter Bernstein making a special guest appearance. The date was produced by Paul Stache and saxophonist Eric Alexander.
