    Posted: 01 Jan 2016 at 7:30am
There is a first day of 2016 already, so it's time to start with very fresh news here.

The very first album I would like to present here is a new David Bowie release, officially in sale in the middle of next week. Sure, Bowie isn't jazz singer, and not a jazz musician per se, but his newest release "Blackstar" is his jazziest work ever.

The idea of this new recordings was born in New York when Bowie with his friend (and one of the biggest jazz star of previous,2015 year) composer and band big band leader Maria Schneider watched Donny McCaslin jazz band playing in 55 Bar in West Village. Ten days later Bowie asked McCaslin and drummer Mark Guliana to join his band recording hew Bowie's album.

So, newest David Bowie album "Blackstar" is a work where Bowie sings with Donny McCaslin jazz band playing, don't miss this trully interesting work!

Returning back to true jazz, the first album I listened to of new year's releases is pianist Lisa Hilton's "Nocturnal" - moody and lyrical modern chamber jazz recorded with team of great musicians

LISA HILTON - Nocturnal cover

As almost every year's January, first new albums come from vocalists, winter eves are obviously great time for that. American singer Michelle Hendriks, living in France for years, just released her new album on French Cristal label (with Tommy Flanagan Trio) - "A Little Bit Of Ella". The title tells it all.

The new album by Jaimeo Brown, "Work Songs" sounds like nothing you have ever heard before.
Prison work songs from the US south mix with psychedelia and classical music from southeast Asia, if you can imagine that. Fans of the first couple Funkadelic albums might hear something a little bit familiar.

After decades lasting deal with ECM veteran Charles Lloyd returned back to his early label - Blue Note. Being in a peak of his artistic creativity this change is probably for good, at least Charles shows different side of his music here.

American drummer Ari Hoenig on his new album (which by its concept is soundtrack to "improvised stories he tells his two small children") mixes mainstream jazz, fusion and world tunes. He played previously with Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan, most probably some songs here come influenced by this collaboration. Pianist Shai Maestro and guitarist Gilad Hekselman on board among others.
