Here in Northern Europe we all know that the summer is gone even if there is still really warm outside. Jazz Festivals return back from summer resorts to towns for autumn season. There is still true summer in Paris where tomorrow starts regular Jazz a la Villette.
Steve Coleman who becomes a real star in Europe will play three nights there (each with different band). Archie Shepp (who is more French than any other US jazz ex-patriot) plays with Melvin Van Peebles and The Heliocentrics,strange project Atomic Bomb unites Money Mark of Beastie Boys with Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem and David Murray among others. The Bad Plus play Ornette Coleman's Science Fiction, experimentalist Eve Risser plays with White Desert Orchestra,Magic Malik Orchestra opens one night for Steve Coleman,etc,etc.
There still is some jazz in Paris....
