Seven Jazz Artists Receive Doris Duke Impact Awards

Musicians will each get an $80,000 cash gift

By JazzTimes

Seven jazz artists have received 2015 Doris Duke Impact Awards, it was announced today by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF). Each of the seven— pianist Kris Davis, bassist Mark Dresser, drummer Milford Graves, pianist Matt Mitchell, multi-instrumentalist Tyshawn Sorey, multi-instrumentalist Henry Threadgill and bassist Reggie Workman—will receive an unrestricted gift of $80,000.

The award, according to a press release from the foundation, “is part of the larger Doris Duke Performing Artist Awards, launched in late 2011 as a special 10-year initiative of the foundation to empower, invest in and celebrate artists by offering flexible, multi-year funding in response to financial challenges that are specific to the performing arts.”
