Hope you'll enjoy "The Great Lakes Suites" as well - one of the best 2014 albums on my list. Far not an easy listening ,it contains that rare nowadays balance between (seriously) composed and improvised, tuneful and free and being monumental happily avoids of being too bombastic.

George is touring down here again John. A friend saw his last gig here and said it went for 5 hours. The ones that did not pace themselves were falling by the wayside. LOL

The Now
Fabulous pianist, played with Joshua Redman a bit. Lovely bloke as well.

Worthy
Joe Henry produced Thumbs Up

Forever
I have a couple of Wayne's already "From A Window" and "Sweeter Than The Day" with the later being a beautiful album. Bought them years ago when they were released and still play them. His recent material....anyway went for this older release.
Swingin On The Korner: Live at Keystone Korner

Looks Good, love me Red...............don't mind a sav Blanc either for that matter.

Rare Jazz & Film Music: 1

Half of this contains "Knife On The Water". Could of bought the Soundtrack on record on it's own but this was a bit cheaper and most likely the best tracks from the original Soundtrack are included. Will keep at this series if they continue with it most likely.

Genius Hits the Road

"Hit the road Jack, why don't you come back, no more, no more" albeit that one is not here but plenty of other goodun's from Ray. Mix of Standards, Popular and Country numbers.

Popular African Music is Gunter Gretz's label which started around the late eighties. I started buying them about 25 years ago which was when he started to release the majority on his label. A couple I have reviewed here , Balla's and Nicholas Menheim's (Afro Son Classic). I love this blokes releases which include old African Classics ( Reminiscin' in Tempo) and he also records current artists himself, usually in Africa with all the problems of lack of available power, sh*t equipment etc but this actually is what puts even more of that genuine African into them. Yes, that is why I love most of them as they are the Real McCoy. One other note it was he who recorded Kante Manfila's later ones which were normally done near his home in Guinea, Kan Kan.

Amazon, Ebay had them for a fortune but you can get them at their original price and brand new if you are interested from Gunter himself as he still nearly has the lot of them. These below are what I never bought due to availability when I was picking them up around 20 to 25 years ago. I do nearly own his entire catalogue about 28 ( with these) out of about 35 to 40 by just getting them over the years but the majority were picked up early days.

Taximen + (Reminiscin in Tempo / African Dancefloor Classics)

Guitar Extra Dry

Back To Farabanah (Kankan Blues Verse III / Out of Africa Series)

Le Destin
