I browsed the local independent record store from Z(appa) to Z(orn) literally Z to A at first and lastly A to Z.  Saw this one and the notes on the spine card got me to take it home.  Actually it didn't make it home as I popped it in in the parking lot.

Yea I couldn't pass it up, no matter what the music was like. On the back it says Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock were on it, so that was a definite buy. Ive only listened to it once, and though I was expecting post-bop (and got mostly avant-jazz (free jazz?) with a little bop towards the end), you can't buy much for a dollar these days.

This isn't the purest of jazz.  More jazz-related, but I grabbed these downloads today:

Last Exit - Last Exit (download)

John Zorn - What Thou Wilt (download)

^ Nice choices, MJQ and Ornette make a nice pairing in contrasts, yet both are totally retro-beatnik cool.

Have not been here for a while simply because after I bought all this, I have not bought hardly anything to make up for it.

Complete Pops on Decca

Complete Diz small group sessions

Lester with ze Count

Gotta hear where so many Jazz tunes came from. with the above

Sam is still in the mail.

Now you know why I have not been buyin' much. Enough here to keep me busy for quite a while anyway.

Phillip Wilson Project's Steel & Breath (Bill Laswell production that takes in Don Cherry avant garde jazz through to the distinct nu fusion(?)/funk with Jonas Hellborg on bass). Also downloaded, ( following recommendation locally and having paid a relatively large amount for) Don EllisOrchestra Live At Monterey.

The next one is, embarrassingly, just the second Coltrane album in my collection.  My brother has a good chunk of his discography (including this one), so he's no stranger to my ears.  I couldn't pass this up for $5.

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme

Great stuff, I have not heard the Sun Ra myself Dan (need to get more) but the Coltrane for 5 bucks........awesome, I love a bargain Approve

The record store I went to today had a great selection of jazz vinyl.  The site for the store has an online database, so I'll be sure to browse it to investigate some of the albums I turned down.  Overwhelmed with the selection, I just went with some fusion as well as some non-jazz.   http://ricrec.com/

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Apocalypse

Lenny White - Venusian Summer
