Fresh from their Mercury Music Prize nomination last year, Manchester-based piano trio GoGo Penguin have just announced they have signed to legendary jazz label Blue Note Records.
Set to perform their biggest London show to date at KOKO on 12 June,
the band will preview much of their new material that will feature on
the album, which is scheduled for release in early 2016. Featuring pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka and drummer Rob Turner, GoGo Penguin had already been building a substantial following prior to being nominated for the 2014 Mercury Music Prize for their second album, v2.0. They have since gained huge momentum on the European live circuit as well as selling out tour dates across the UK. Drawing early inspiration from iconic Swedish band EST with
driving rhythms and memorable melodic hooks, GoGo Penguin take a wide
range of influences from classical, ambient and electronica artists –
leading to them being dubbed an acoustic-electronica trio. |
