Jazz sounds in a country where southern peninsula of Crimea has been occupied and later annexed by Russians last summer and part of territory in the East-South is under war condition, annual jazz festival still take place in most Western (by its history, culture, architecture and mentality) town of Lviv. Haven't been there for years but still remember its very European (comparing with rest of Ukraine) old town. Some high-class ists, but more important - the spirit of freedom in that very difficult for all nation time

This year, (5-14 December) the JazzBez International jazz marathon will bring together the Ukrainian and Polish cities of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Lutsk, Mostyska, Lublin, Sanok, Wroclaw, Bialystok, Nowica, Przemysl. As usual, the organisational core  of the Festival is Lviv.

Each  one year the Festival is used to  join new cities. But in 2014 some significantly important jazz music centres are the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. For those people who’ve  lived through all horrors of war, Jazz Music of Freedom takes some special sense.

The Festival organisers are going to invite 10 musicians from the ATO /anti-terrorist operation in Eastern Ukraine/ territory and to cover all expenses in order to join them to the JazzBez  master classes and three jam sessions. And  in 2015, those musicians will become  the JazzBez Festival ‘backbone’  in the liberated cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.

Markiyan Ivaschyshyn (Director Dzyga Art Association, Lviv, Ukraine)
"This year our people, more than never before, have to experience both our internal unity and our unity with the global culture; we have not to implement those things, which are conceived and analysed by someone, but we have to think and to  analyse by ourselves. We have to support our brothers in  the occupied territories, and not to forget that art has to live even in the war time”

This year, like all previous years, the best representatives of Polish, Ukrainian and, in particular, Crimean Tatar jazz environments, covering jazz kilometres from Wroclaw to Kharkiv, are going to visit the cties of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk  as well.

Total JazzBez budget in Poland and Ukraine – UAH 1,127,940

Sponsorship covers the greater part of expenses. But there is still deficiency of the budget /peace concerts/ -  UAH 237,000 (minimal travel expenses, meals and accommodation, sound and light, without fees for musicians).

The organisers have launched a fundraiser in the BIGGGidea. The funds, raised by means of  BIGGGidea community  will be used for the organisation of free concerts in the liberated cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk

Support and donate peacefull concerts in the liberated territories just now. The crucial and turning crisis in  Sloviansk and Kramatorsk may be changed due to the implication of each one of us
