Dave Holland

Is there any jazz musician with a more colorful, inventive repertoire than Dave Holland? I mean, his work with Miles Davis is amazing. Holland's bass work really captivates me when I listen to Bitches Brew.

He has played with countless musicians, almost seems like he's played with everyone. I particularly enjoy his work with Pat Metheny. "Question & Answer" is one of my favorite jazz albums. Holland and Metheny are also great on "Like Minds" with Gary Burton, Chick Corea, and Roy Haynes.

I've been digging into his work as a bandleader, and I've known a few of his albums like "Prime Directive", "Not For Nothin'", and "Extended Play: Live At Birdland". Those albums are great, some of the best jazz of the new millennium. I'm looking to get into more of his solo albums. "Overtime" looks like a good one. I know "Conference of the Birds" is a popular album, but I haven't checked it out yet.

I have so many jazz albums with Dave Holland as the bass player, I can't even try to figure out which ones off the top of my head, but the man is quite an active player.

I was looking at Prism, I'm thinking about getting that one now.

Yea Miles' "lost quintet" is intense. I love It's About That Time since Wayne Shorter was still in the band, and the Cellar Door sessions are great. Holland could have played more electric bass if he wanted to.
