I have been wanting to record an album like this for a long time, in the tradition of jazz greats like Keith Jarrett and Wayne Shorter. It was a very special experience, creating and developing these pieces on the fly, and I'm glad to finally be able to share this music with all of you!

In the Moment was recorded during three sessions at The Noise Nest recording studio in Hollywood - 13 tracks were recorded on their wonderful Yamaha C3 grand piano, and 3 tracks on their vintage Wurlitzer electronic piano. Both instruments were an inspiration to perform on, so much so that every track on the album was improvised and recorded live "in the moment!"

On July 18, 2022, at the invitation of co-owner Mike Riley, Rachel visited Noise Nest Studios in Hollywood, CA. Once she entered the main studio, Rachel began playing the Yamaha C3 Grand Piano, and what was initially intended as a short tour became an impromptu recording session. The tracks on this album were recorded during 3 sessions: July 18, 2022, Sept. 24, 2022, and August 30, 2023. During those sessions, Rachel sat down at the piano, and a couple of times at the vintage Wurlitzer, the engineer hit "record," and Rachel played whatever came to mind, much of it improvised "In the Moment."
