JMA has 23 studio albums listed for Al Di Meola. For poll purposes, which of these is your favorite from him? For discussion purposes, what other albums do you like from him. I have 8 of these albums, which is one of my larger jazz artist collections. I'm not sure which is my favorite, but I really enjoy each of the first 4 albums and World Sinfonia-Hart of the Immigrants. I've not heard the other two World Sinfonia albums. I've not heard anything more recent than Orange and Blue, so I am curious to what your thoughts are on his albums released subsequent to that album.

I heard almost every Al's album (at least 20), and saw him playing live 5 times (with World Sinfonia,RTF and solo). It's difficult to chose one album - for me there is at least one strong album from his every period. From his early (fast-fingers fusion) period I prefer Elegant Gypsy; from world fusion period - probably "World Sinfonia" is best for me. Starting from very early 90s almost all his albums are of quite similar Mediterranean-Latin fusion, if you like it you will like almost any album from that time.Al's this year (2013) album contains Beatles songs reworked for acoustic guitar - probably least successful album for decades.Another low point release is his duet with Russian pop-funk guitarist Leonid Agutin - "Cosmopolitan Life".

Voted for "World Sinfonia"

I liked Al a lot when he first came out, he sort of reminded me of Carlos Santana, only with better technique. I saw his first tour when he opened for Weather Report. Over the years my tastes started to shift away from that 70s fusion style, so I lost touch mostly, although I did listen to some things he did with Paco de Lucia.
I voted for Al's first album.

I've voted for Elegant Gypsy - I do love his first four and have only a few others. Curious about World Sinfonia now Smile

Elegant Gypsy, closely followed by Casino. I like his first 4 albums, but after that, he loses me. I don't know why, because I like the style of music he does since the 70s.

I'll go with Casino, though I was unaware he had such an extensive solo discog.
Hit it on Five.
