Longtime NYC avant-garde jazzer Rob Reddy presents a tribute to Sidney Bechet on his new release, "Bechet: Our Contemporary".
Reddy does a great job of fusing early New Orleans jazz with contemprary downtown NYC, somewhat similar to other future-retro artists such as Sun Ra and Ellington.

With so many artists taking the 'avant-garde' route these days, its easy for some of the best to go unnoticed. Walking Distance is a band that deserves more recognition, on their album "Neighborhood" they present a double sax, bass and drums quartet that plays modern NYC flavored jazz with recognizable roots in Monk, Ornette and Henry Threadgill.
This is 'hot' jazz for the new era with lots of wit and humor intact.

Jeff "Tain" Watts "Blue Volume 1" is an energetic and creative blend of modern fusion, artsy RnB and old school free jazz, all fueled by his personal take on what jazz drumming can sound like:

Sarah Elizabeth Charles' new album "Inner Dialoue" is a hugely ambitious affair of broad vision and originality. One critic has described her music as 'a genre of one'.
Charles combines modern fusion, classical, neo-soul, art pop, and music from Africa and Latin America into big studio productions. Elements of Jill Scott, Kate Bush and Espeanza Spaulding all come together here.
