SFJAZZ has announced the programming for the 37th San Francisco Jazz Festival, which runs June 11-23. The two-week festival will present 40 shows in four different venues in the Bay Area, featuring such performers as Jazzmeia Horn, José James, Tia Fuller, Fabian Almazán, Linda May Han Oh, Rudresh Mahanthappa, and Kenny Garrett.

Of the many shows scheduled for the festival, five in particular stand out: a double bill pairing pianist Almazán’s group Rhizome with bassist Oh’s quartet on Thurs., June 13; the Mattson 2’s reinterpretation of John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme, aided by guitarist Calvin Keys, on Fri., June 14; the SFJAZZ debut of Norwegian clarinetist Felix Peikli, paying tribute to the music of Benny Goodman, on Sun., June 16; the Cookers (Eddie Henderson, Billy Harper, Donald Harrison, Cecil McBee, George Cables, and Billy Hart) on Tues., June 18; and an estimable saxophone double bill of the Chris Potter Circuits Trio and the Kenny Garrett Quartet on Fri., June 21.

Along with the San Francisco Jazz Festival lineup, SFJAZZ also announced the artists who will perform in its Summer Sessions program, a series of mini-festivals that runs from July 11-Aug. 18. Acts include the Sun Ra Arkestra, Gregory Porter, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Mary Halvorson, Mary Stallings, Kenny Washington, Bria Skonberg, and Alicia Olatuja. The program’s central theme this year is “The Great American Songbook”—meaning music of North, Central, and South America—with side ventures into “The New American Songbook” and “New Orleans Now.”

Tickets for the festival and for Summer Sessions will go on sale to SFJAZZ members on Mar. 1 and to the general public on Mar. 8.
