Absolutely agree about this release - I was more than skeptical when heard it was released, but after I listened to it few times I was more and more pleasantly surprised how well it works!

Bill Frisell & Co. play straightforward Lennon/Beatles tunes in pop-rock manner. Total disaster!

Gentlemen, I need some really good jazz for my "albums of 2011" list (soon to come in two months). Give me your top 5s of the year!

You probably know how I feel, it's a very good year for jazz.

Right now, I got three clear favourites.
  • Peter Evans Quintet - Ghosts
  • Marilyn Mazur - Celestial Circle
  • Bill Dixon - Envoi
Followed by: Mostly Other People Do The Killing, Aram Shelton's Arrive, Colin Stetson (does he count?), Akira / Gustaffsson / O'Rourke, Scott Fields & Mathias Schubert

too early for that...
I think the problem with a lot of the fusion music is that it's extremely predictable, it's a rock rhythm and the solos all play the same stuff and they play it over and over again ...

I also need some 2011 jazz albums. All Ive heard is the new Bela Fleck & The Flecktones. I should  have the new Hiromi album in the next couple of weeks, but that's it (I think).

We still have two months Wink. Jazz year wasn't bad, but nothing special as well - not one from 80s, but far from late 60s or early 70s as well LOL

First what comes to mind of this year's good releases:

I know. I want to use those two months listening to the best jazz albums that were released so far, so that by the end of December I can come up with my own list. Wink

If any new outstanding albums appear from now on until the end of the year, I trust you to post them here. Wink

Something that wasn't mentioned yet and I find interesting, Okkyung Lee-Noisy Love Songs , some label her music as jazz., more some kind of contemporary but definetly worth an audition

First impressions: Ghosts is jolly good, thanks Rico!

The glitch on it can be annoying at times, though.

Only 3 for me so far this year

    1. Hiromi - Voice
    2. Peter Evans Quintet - Ghosts
    3. Trichotomy - The Gentle War.

Watching this thread may change that. Wink

When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

I found this blog post on NPR last night, some really great stuff throughout!

I'm listening to Miguel Zenon's album on Spotify right now and am enjoying it.
