When these guys entered the Miles Davis Quintet, their solo albums seemed inspired some of their work with Davis, and also vise-versa, Davis also seemed to be inspired by them.
So which is it gonna be, Hancock's refined post-bop classic, Shorter's original hard bop or Williams' more loose jazz?
I've chosen these all from 1965, just after recording E.S.P. However, I've read that Speak No Evil was recorded previously to this, still, I think it's more suitable album than The All Seeing Eye, for example. |

Maiden Voyage. Shorter's album is good, nice slice of 60s post-bop. Spring I found for $1 a few months ago, and I listened to it once (and has Hancock and Shorter on it), but it didn't do much for me. I'll have to re-visit that one.

MV for me too - though I have and think the Shorter album is close, Herbie seems more experimental on MV. I haven't got Spring yet though

As a result, I went to Maiden Voyage, too. And I like Juju than Speak No Evil. Just personal preference.

kind of surprised that Shorter doesn't get any votes (so far), but I don't think it's his best album that was picked
Don't find SNE particularkly post-bop... and like Kaz, I prefer Juju tio SNE, but Juju is prior to SNE, so less valid in terms of the opening post don't have much memories of any solo Tony Williams abum, though Sooo Maiden Voyage for me.... But I don't find it Herbie's best (hey shoot me for that
