Hey guys, I'm doing a dance routine to a recording of Dickie's Dream by Lester Young and Count Basie Kansas City Seven. Exact version is on Spotify but not youtube but anyway a similar enough version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iivFg_6IKkk
I'm interested in finding out more about the background of the song. Like was Dickie someone? It is often that those tunes have a back story, like a reference to the popular culture at the time that stops being understood after a while. Any ideas here? Cheers!

Possibly it refers to Dickie Wells who played trombone with Basie. I'll see if I can find out more.

Ah yes, The song was written by Dickie Wells, I am sure thats who it refers to, just as in the tune "Monk's Dream" by Thelonious Monk.
