SFJAZZ recently released their programming schedules for the 36th San Francisco Jazz Festival and their 2018 Summer Sessions.  The inaugural San Francisco Jazz Festival took place in 1983 as a two-day event, then called Jazz in the City.  Continually expanding over the past 36 years, it has become a globally renowned event, and this year will be home to 43 different shows over 13 days at 5 different venues around San Francisco’s Hayes Valley Neighborhood.

The 36th San Francisco Jazz Festival will get the ball rolling on Tuesday, June 5 from 5:00pm to 10:00pm at the outdoor Proxy space in Hayes Valley with a free admission celebration.  This event will feature live music from Beso Negro and Howard Wiley & Extra Nappy, as well as videos, a beer garden and food trucks.

Over the ensuing two weeks, the festival will showcase artists like Ahmad Jamal, Monsieur Periné, Irma Thomas, Sérgio Mendes, Tuck and Patti, Kneebody, Marcus Miller, Brian Blade Fellowship, Lea DeLaria, Julian Lage Trio, Thumbscrew, Amadou & Mariam, Zakir Hussain, Dave Holland, Chris Potter, Arturo Sandoval, Broken Shadows and Soweto Kinch.

Tickets for the  San Francisco Jazz Festival, and the Summer Sessions will be on sale for SFJAZZ Members on Friday, March 9 at 11:00AM PST, and for the general public on Friday, March 16 at 11:00AM PST.  For tickets and more information, visit SFJAZZ.org.

The SFJAZZ 2018 Summer Sessions includes events like the Philip Glass Festival, New Grass-American Roots Week, New Sounds of Cuba, New Voices, Bay Area Soul, as well as SFJAZZ interactive workshops, hands on clinics for teens, and more.
