(ANSAmed) - TUNIS, FEBRUARY 28 - Tunisia is gearing up for a spring packed with musical and cultural events: on March 31-April 9, Carthage will host the International Jazz Festival, which has reached its 12th edition.

Carthage (a UNESCO cultural world heritage site), the Tunisian national tourism office said, is a beloved destination for tourists from around the world both for its archaeological site and for the cultural and artistic experiences it is able to offer. The jazz festival is one of the most anticipated events and is very rich this year: musical genres will include soul, flamenco, blues aimed at a multi-cultural Tunisian and foreign public.

Ten evenings have been scheduled with over 20 jazz artists from all over the world. Jazz lovers will be able to watch the performances of artists who have already attended previous editions of the festival, including France's Ben l'Oncle Soul and Akua Naru, whose music mixes soul to jazz, blues and afro elements.

Leading artists to attend also include Jay-Jay Johanson, Aaron, Cocoon and Pink Martini. Oriental notes will enrich the jazz festival thanks to important artists like Moroccan singer Hindi Zahra and Algerian singer Djazia Satour.

The new Arab music world will be represented by Wust El Balad and Palestinian band 47 Soul. Moroccan singer Nabyla Maan will also perform.

Many Tunisian artists will be attending this edition of the festival: Sabry Mosbah, Akua Nura, Ajr't Band and the Jazz Club of Tunis who will perform in Sousse. Italian artist Raphael Gualazzi, an extraordinary musician known internationally for his jazz-blues mix will perform on April 5.

His participation was made possible by the cooperation with the Italian cultural institute in Tunis. (ANSAmed)
