there are lot of artists mixing jazz and local folklore traditions
some better known are: Aziza Mustafa Zadeh ( Azerbaijani mugab + jazz): Tigran Hamasyan (Armenian folk + jazz): Enver Izmailov (Uzbek roots + Black Sea/Mediterranean influence) : Nino Katamadze (Georgian folk + pop/acid jazz/jazz): Toni Kitanovski (Macedonian folk + jazz/fusion): Amira Medunjanin (Bosnian sevdah + jazz): there are lot more similar artists, partially from North/West Africa, SE Europe and SE Asia as well. one big source of world fusion of sort is Eastern European Jews folklore legacy mixed with jazz (so-called klezmer) : you can find much more examples of music/artists you're searching for here: Edited by snobb - 26 Jan 2017 at 5:05am |

I'm researching jazz created outside of the USA that brings local traditional music together with modern jazz and would welcome any suggestions. For example, is there any modern fusion of jazz with russian traditional music ? Or any Turkish influenced jazz ? Or Reggae jazz ? Your help much appreciated !
