Mixing jazz-funk, ’70s modal jazz, and neo-soul.

Saxophone legend Gary Bartz is releasing a new album, titled Gary Bartz JID006, via Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad’s Jazz Is Dead label this March.

Alongside Bartz’ prolific solo output, over the course of his nearly 70-year-career, he has also collaborated with musicians including Art Blakey, Miles Davis, and Max Roach.

Marking his first studio album in eight years, Gary Bartz JID006 sees the saxophonist working with elements of jazz-funk, ’70s modal jazz, and neo-soul.

It follows Bartz’ collaborative album with Maisha as part of Night Dreamer’s Direct to Disc Sessions series, earlier this year.

Pre-order Gary Bartz JID006 here in advance of its 13th March release, check out the artwork and tracklist below.

Tracklist:

1. Spiritual Ideation
2. Visions of Love
3. Black and Brown
4. Blue Jungles
5. Day By Day
6. Distant Mode
7. The Message
8. Soulsea
