BRIGHTON FESTIVAL HITS 50 WITH LAURIE ANDERSON, NIK BÄRTSCH AND PHRONESIS 



This year’s Brighton Festival, the biggest multi-arts festival in the UK, celebrates it’s 50th anniversary from 7-29 May with experimental musician/artist Laurie Anderson as Guest Director and in performance with pianist Nik Bärtsch and guitarist Eivind Arset. Presenting over 230 events across contemporary and classical music, theatre, film, dance, art, comedy and literature at Brighton Dome and other venues, jazz fans are directed towards the special commission, Song Conversation, Song as a Place featuringAnderson, Bärtsch and Aarset, which chimes with the festival theme of Home and Place and features them improvising and discussing aspects of each tune at Brighton Dome on 17 May

Phronesis will be playing music from their brand new album Parallax at the Corn Exchange on 19 May, while highly versatile percussionist Adriano Adewale performs Catapluf’s Musical Journey at theBrighton Dome Studio Theatre on the afternoon of 28 May, and the Hindustani slide guitar masterDebashish Bhattacharya appears with table player Gurdain Rayatt at the Brighton Dome in the evening of 28 May. Elsewhere, Lou Reed Drones, a feedback sound installation featuring Reed’s amps and guitars, runs from 13-17 May free of charge at The Spire, and Laura Mvula brings her acclaimed soul/jazz vocal talents to the Theatre Royal on 23 May
