The City of Miami Beach Arts in the Parks and KCC Productions present International Jazz Day 2015
Opening the program will be the New World School for the Arts Big Band Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Jim Gasior, with vocalist LeNard Rutledge. This award-winning band is behind an award-winning baritone (Best Jazz Musician, Miami New Times) whose style has been called captivating, soul-stirring, earthy, and funky, often compared to that of the great Lou Rawls. They will be followed by The World Music 5, comprising Jose and Nomar Negroni (piano and drums), Josh Allen (bass), Dr Ed Calle (sax), and Federico Britos (jazz violin.) An outstanding group, with multi-Grammy winning violinist Federico Britos and two-time Latin-Grammy nominated saxophonist Dr. Ed Calle joining Miami favorite Negroni's Trio, is performing and recording some of the finest jazz/world music around. They have been touring continuously throughout South Florida and the globe including Puerto Rico, Mexico, Santo Domingo, and NYC. Currently completing work on their first record, "America," the World Music 5 continues touring and sharing their musical passion, experience, and expertise with students wherever they visit. Closing will be the outstanding New York vocalist Vivian Sessoms. Vivacious, vibrant, and vigorous are adjectives used to describe her voice and performance. Vivian has worked with Michael Jackson, Roberta Flack, Christina Aguilera, Cher, Joe Cocker, P!nk, Patti Labelle, Patti Austin, Natalie Cole and Chaka Khan, providing background vocals on dozens of CD's and lead vocals on numerous tracks in the US and Japan. Already the star of one CD, "Sunny One Day," she is now producing herfirst jazz CD, "Heart." Supporting her tonight is a stellar trio of Silvano Monasterios (Best Jazz Musician, Miami New Times) on piano, Eric England on bass, and Rodolfo Zuniga on drums. "A POWERHOUSE!" -Quincy Jones "She blew the roof off" -Nick Ashford "Vivian is a New York gem" -Gamal Hennessy The event will be hosted by Cary Alexander of WDNA, 88.9 FM "Serious Jazz."
