Charles Lloyd and Sergio Mendes charge up Love Supreme Jazz Festival 2020

First names announced for the 2020 edition of Europe's biggest outdoor jazz festival 

The Love Supreme Jazz Festival returns for its eighth edition, which runs from 3 to 5 July 2020, at its idyllic locale at Glynde, East Sussex, with US saxophonist Charles Lloyd among the first names to be confirmed for the event.

Making his debut appearance at the festival, the renowned 81-year-old jazz icon has been enjoying a creative resurgence and appears with one of his current groups, Kindred Spirits, who’ve received rave reviews and topped numerous critics polls.

The festival’s diverse programme also embraces a wide range of a jazz, funk and soul artists, with further names confirmed including Brazilian keyboard king Sergio Mendes and 1970s soul stars The Isley Brothers, who play their first live shows in over a decade.

Since its inauguration in 2013, Love Supreme grown to become Europe’s biggest greenfield jazz festival, with over 44,000 music fans attending the event in 2019. Jazzwise is festival media partner. Further names will be announced soon.

Further US, UK and European jazz names have been added to the big summer jazz bash 

The organisers of the Love Supreme Jazz Festival, which runs from 3 to 5 July, have confirmed a tranche new names for the wider jazz programme at what’s now become Europe’s biggest outdoor summer jazz event. Among the acts are several big London-based bands, such as septets KOKOROKO and Nérija, who share several members including sax star Nubya Garcia, who also plays her own festival set.

There are fresh Scottish jazz sounds too from fast-rising trio Strata and the award-winning Fergus McCreadie Trio. US talent added to the bill includes saxophonist Melissa Aldana, fiery Chicagoan trumpeter Jaimie Branch and electronics man Damon Locks (both on the iconoclastic International Anthem label), while hyper-talented LA drummer Louis Cole’s barnstorming Big Band should be a humour-laden highlight. Acclaimed New York-based trumpeter Avishai Cohen also brings his heavy-hitting ECM-signed project, Big Vicious, to the festival. 

Further names include Tunisian oud maestro Dhafer Youssef; a new project from drummer Yussef Dayes and guitarist/singer Tom Misch; Michael Janisch Band; Quentin Collins Sextet; Neue Grafik Ensemble; Yasmin Lacy; Greentea Peng; guitarist Rob Luft; Harold Lopéz Nussa; Snowboy and the Latin Section; Brand New Heavies; Mamas Gun; Georgia Cécile; Kathrin Windfeld Sextet; Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, zany US jazz-funk man Cory Wong and a Sunday night headline slot from iconic hip hop band The Roots.

These names join those already confirmed are revered saxophonist Charles Lloyd’s Kindred Spirits, latin-jazz keyboardist Sérgio Mendes and mainstage soul names such as Anita Baker, TLC, Sister Sledge, Candi Staton and The Isley Brothers. Jazzwise is festival media partner.
