Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) The second edition
of the Varadero Josone Rumba, Jazz and Son Festival will take place in
Cuba with the participation of a score of Cuban artists and foreign
guests, organizers announced.
The event, aimed at launching Varadero as a musical destination, speaks highly of the indisputable quality of local music, with 'made in Cuba' jazz, son, rumba, salsa and timba, rhythms that are part of the country's culture, explained Isaac Delgado, the festival's main promoter. The festival is scheduled to take place from August 22 to 25 in Josone Park, a nine-hectare garden with a wide variety of trees, fauna, a lagoon and gastronomic and recreational facilities, founded in 1942 in Cuba's most famous coastal resort, Varadero, in Matanzas province. The Varadero Josone, Rumba Jazz and Son Festival is organized by the Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (EGREM), in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, the Cuban Music Institute and sponsors including the Iberoestar hotel chain, the Cuban Rum Company and Palmares. Renowned musicians will participate in this edition of the festival, including the orchestras Los Van Van, Adalberto Alvarez y su Son, and Alexander Abreu and Havana D'Primera, and singer Pancho Cespedes. Among the international guests are Peruvian folklorist Eva Ayllon, the ambassadors of jazz and African rhythms Weedie Braimah and The Hands of Time, from Ghana, and Quintero's Latin Jazz Project, of Venezuelan origin based in New York, United States. The program of the four-day event also includes performances by Isaac Delgado, Muñequitos de Matanzas, Buena Fe, Paulo FG y su Elite, Descemer Bueno, Haila Maria Mompie, Eme Alfonso, Divan, Los 4, and Alain Perez. from www.plenglish.com |
